As the region’s largest hunger-relief organization, we serve as a critical lifeline for 400,000 people every month across San Diego County. Through a combination of direct programs and a network of more than 450 nonprofit partners, we provide food assistance to individuals and families facing food insecurity, while also advocating for systemic change and building a healthier, more resilient community.

A $150,000 matching gift from Neurocrine Biosciences is giving San Diegans an opportunity to make twice the impact for neighbors experiencing hunger. Through Aug. 1, every dollar donated to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is matched, helping the Food Bank provide even more nutritious food to people throughout the community. Food Bank Community Engagement Manager Kayla Thomson explains how matching gifts stretch donor dollars, the many ways the Food Bank sources food, and the importance of fresh produce. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 52 million pounds of food, including millions of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Food Bank’s Summer Food Drive has also brought in approximately 400,000 pounds of food through donations at participating Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions stores. The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is receiving approximately 400,000 pounds of food through the 16th annual Summer Food Drive, providing an estimated 330,000 meals for people in need. The food is being delivered to the Food Bank after community members purchased $5 Hunger Bags at participating Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions stores.
