Join Us for the San Diego Food Bank's 16th Annual Summer Food Drive!

This summer, you don’t need a cape to be a hero. With one small act, you can help San Diegans facing hunger.

June 3-July 28

Hunger doesn’t take a break when school is out during the summer months. With school meals unavailable, local families feel the pinch and often turn to the Food Bank for assistance. Bring hope to San Diegans experiencing food insecurity by supporting our 16th annual Summer Food Drive. Every act, big or small, makes you a Hunger Hero for neighbors in need this summer.

Here’s how you can help this summer:

1. Donate a $5 Hunger Bag at Checkout

June 3-July 4

Stop by any of the 70+ Albertsons, Vons, or Pavilions supermarkets in San Diego County and donate a $5 Hunger Bag during checkout. Every bag directs essential pantry staples to local neighbors in need. Just tell your cashier know at checkout, and your donation will be added to your total.

2. Drop Off Food Donations at Select Locations

June 3-July 28

Look for our iconic red barrels inside select Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions locations. Donate unopened, nonperishable food to help keep our shelves stocked throughout the summer.

Most-needed items include:

  • Canned meats and fish
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Canned soups and stews
  • Peanut butter
  • Cereal and oatmeal

3. Give Online

Every $1 you give helps provide two nutritious meals to a neighbor in need. Your donation makes an immediate impact and supports our hunger-relief efforts all summer long.

4. Host a Virtual Food Drive

Rally your coworkers, friends, or community group to start a virtual food drive. It’s a powerful, simple way to help feed families across our region, and it only takes a few minutes to set up. We stretch every dollar to purchase healthy, high-demand items like fresh produce, frozen proteins, and dry goods. You’ll receive a custom link to share, so you can raise funds anytime, from anywhere.
