This February, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is inviting the community to Spread the Love and help fight hunger during one of the most challenging times of the year for food donations. Even after the holiday season ends, the need remains, and the Food Bank continues to support more than 400,000 people every month across San Diego County.

The Spread the Love campaign focuses on collecting nut butters, including peanut, almond, and cashew butter — protein-rich, shelf-stable foods that families rely on and kids love. These items also offer important options for households managing food allergies. Community members can donate jars, host a food drive, or make a financial gift that helps put nutritious food on the table.

Ways to give:
• Donate online. $20 = 12 jars of peanut butter or nut butter!
• Host a nut butter drive, either in person or virtually.
• Donate unopened jars of peanut butter or other nut butters at drop-off locations across the county.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank celebrated the ribbon cutting of its new permanent North County warehouse in Vista, a major step forward in strengthening hunger relief efforts across the region. The 60,000-square-foot facility replaces a leased space used for more than a decade and is expected to save about $400,000 each year — funds that can now be reinvested directly into food distribution and program improvements.

The facility supports critical programs serving North County communities, including the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program for local students and the Food Bank’s countywide diaper bank. Expanded cold storage, including new refrigeration and freezer space, will improve efficiency and reduce costs while increasing access to fresh, perishable foods. Food Bank leaders say the Vista location reinforces a long-term commitment to serving families throughout North County and beyond.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank has opened a new permanent facility in Vista, strengthening its ability to serve North County families facing food insecurity. The 60,000-square-foot warehouse marks a major milestone, transitioning the Food Bank from a leased space to permanent ownership — an investment expected to save roughly $400,000 each year. Those savings can now be redirected toward purchasing food and expanding programs.

The Vista location also introduces a Client Choice Pantry, designed to feel like a grocery store, where individuals and families can select the foods that best meet their needs. This model, unique to the Vista facility, reflects the Food Bank’s commitment to dignity, choice, and long-term community impact. Leaders say the new site signals a lasting promise to North County residents for generations to come.

A powerful opportunity to make twice the impact for neighbors facing hunger. 💙
Through Wednesday, every gift to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is matched dollar for dollar — up to $100,000 — thanks to the generosity of Delta Dental Community Care Foundation. That means $50 becomes 200 meals and $100 becomes 400 meals for families, seniors, veterans, and students across San Diego County.

As the community looks ahead to 2026, the Food Bank is preparing for ongoing need, seasonal challenges, and potential emergencies. Now is the moment to step forward — by giving, by volunteering, and by standing with neighbors who rely on this vital safety net.

Donations and volunteer opportunities are available at https://sandiegofoodbank.org/. Together, we can start the new year strong and ensure help is there when it is needed most.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is celebrating its 45th annual Holiday Food Drive — a San Diego tradition that helps ensure families across the county have access to nutritious food during the winter and spring months.

Tune in to hear from Casey Castillo, CEO of the San Diego Food Bank, and Assemblymember Dr. LaShae Sharp-Collins as they discuss the growing need for food assistance across the region and the vital role community partnerships play in addressing hunger. Assemblymember Sharp-Collins shares how affordability challenges continue to impact families in her district and why programs like the Holiday Food Drive are essential to supporting working families, seniors, and children.

Donations collected through the Holiday Food Drive are distributed through the Food Bank’s network of more than 450 nonprofit partners, reaching neighbors in every ZIP code. Support also helps power large-scale emergency distributions, including a recent event at Snapdragon Stadium that served more than 2,100 people during the federal government shutdown. State-funded programs like CalFood help fill critical gaps by supporting the distribution of fresh, nutritious food during moments of urgent need.

Ways to give:
• Donate nonperishables at more than 70 Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions locations.
• Purchase a $5 Hunger Bag at checkout to help provide holiday meals.
• Support the Food Bank online anytime with a monetary donation or by hosting a virtual food drive.
