Thanks to the National Association of Letter Carriers, the region-wide effort helps stock the San Diego Food Bank’s shelves ahead of increased summer need.
San Diego, CA (May 11, 2026) – The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank received and collected more than 100,000 pounds of food across San Diego County during the 34th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive on Saturday, May 9.
The NALC Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. The Letter Carriers, volunteers and community members helped collect food for families facing hunger. Residents across San Diego County donated bags of nonperishable food by their mailboxes, where Letter Carriers collected the donations along their routes before delivering them to the San Diego Food Bank for distribution through its network of more than 450 nonprofit partners.
The annual effort comes at a critical time for many families, as rising grocery costs and the upcoming loss of school meals during the summer months place added strain on household budgets.
“We are incredibly grateful to the thousands of San Diegans who participated in this year’s Letter Carriers’ Food Drive to help ‘Stamp Out Hunger,’ and especially to our local Letter Carriers who work tirelessly each year to help make this effort possible,” said Casey Castillo, CEO of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. “This food will help support children, families and seniors across our region during a time when many households are struggling.”
Volunteers supported food collection and sorting efforts throughout the day at several locations across the county, including post offices in Encanto, Grantville and Scripps Ranch as well as the San Diego Food Bank’s Miramar warehouse.
“As public servants, this is our way to not only take care of our customers but also give back,” said Ricardo Guzman, President of NALC Branch 70. “Nationally, we have been able to donate approximately 2 billion pounds of food over the last 34 years.”
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 50 million pounds of food and served an average of 400,000 people each month through community distributions and partnerships across the region.
