Attendees will also learn about local farmers markets and how they have adapted their systems to accommodate CalFresh benefits.
- Hot Topics: Container gardens, buying seeds with CalFresh benefits, and Fresh Fund.
- Tie Back to Theme: Sustainable food sources are a strong force in combating hunger. Gardens and farmers markets are shaping the future of meals and food security.
Workshop #4: Combating Agency Burnout (Bill Oswald, Caring Council)
- Mission/Vision: Educate attendees on the concept of poverty, including who is poor and why. Developing an understanding of the people who make up food lines reignites compassion and motivation to serve, despite volunteer stress and burnout.
- Hot Topics: Stereotypes about people living in poverty, the causes of poverty, and its prevalence in San Diego and the world.
- Tie Back to Theme: The economic recession has impacted the current state of hunger and poverty. Every agency is impacted by long lines and overwhelmed volunteers. Understanding the current state of poverty and those impacted by it should motivate agencies in the pursuit to end hunger in our county.
Workshop #5: Raising Funds in Uncertain Times (Lenore Lowe, Nonprofit Management Solutions)
- Mission/Vision: Educate attendees on how to build funds for their program in a time where all fundraising is very competitive. Attendees will also learn how to market themselves and to diversify their fundraising efforts for a better rate of return.
- Hot Topics: How to develop a multi-focused fundraising plan.
- Tie Back to Theme: Because the current state of hunger is draining many bank accounts, a workshop of this capacity will give agencies resources on how to stay afloat for future operation.

- Mission/Vision: Educate attendees on current anti-hunger policies undergoing legislation. Attendees will also learn effective ways to advocate for causes they support to create real change in the anti-hunger community.
