This summer, the San Diego Food Bank partnered with the City of San Diego and San Diego Public Library to help bridge the meal gap for students and families who rely on free meals during the school year. With support from a $50,000 grant from Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions’ Nourishing Neighbors Foundation, we hosted 11 food distributions at five library locations in July and August. We distributed 53,471 pounds of food — more than 44,000 meals — including fresh produce, peanut butter, cereal, pasta, juice boxes, and more. In total, 1,223 households were served, reaching over 3,200 individuals and ensuring hundreds of families started the school year nourished and supported.
