The government shutdown has come to a close. Please view our updated statement here.
Updated: Nov. 7, 2025
We are relieved that the State of California has released full SNAP benefits for November, and many households in our region are beginning to see funds in their accounts today.
However, the federal government shutdown is not over. Approximately 100,000 government workers in our region remain impacted. Many individuals, such as TSA employees, are about to miss another paycheck, adding strain to household budgets and increasing demand for food assistance. On top of that, December SNAP benefits remain uncertain. The need in our community continues.
Our partnership with 2-1-1 San Diego provides real-time insight into this escalating crisis. Over the past week, food-related call volume has surged by as much as 170%, nearly triple the normal rate. This spike underscores the urgency of the situation.
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank will continue hosting emergency food distributions as needed throughout the shutdown and will expand capacity through our network of 450+ nonprofit partners. Behind the scenes, our team is advocating for affected populations, securing additional food supplies, and mobilizing volunteers to ensure our community is served during this critical time.
We are deeply grateful to the San Diego community for stepping up during this crisis to ensure no one goes hungry. Your support makes all the difference.
