North County Expansion: A Bold Step Toward a Hunger-Free Future

Every day, families in North County are forced to choose between putting food on the table and meeting other basic needs.

Today, the San Diego Food Bank is taking a bold step to change that reality.

We’ve acquired a 60,000-square-foot facility in Vista, a permanent investment that will allow us to serve more families, more efficiently. By owning instead of leasing, we’ll save $400,000 annually, dollars that will go directly back into hunger-relief programs.

Why it Matters

This move cements our long-term commitment to North County. Since assuming operations of the North County Food Bank at the request of the community in 2015, annual distribution has grown from 550,000 to 9.2 million pounds. Together with our Miramar warehouse, we now deliver nearly 14 million pounds of food each year into San Diego’s northernmost communities — a powerful response to rising need and a promise to our community.

Our new facility will offer more than space. It will provide dignity, choice, and essential resources for families across North County. 

  • Expanded Client Choice Pantry – empowering families to select the foods they need with dignity. 
  • 7,000 sq. ft. of enhanced refrigeration – increasing capacity for fresh produce, dairy, and proteins. 
  • On-site Diaper Bank – meeting essential needs beyond food. 
  • Partner Resource Center – dedicated space for trusted partners offering housing, healthcare, employment support, and more.
