BackGround:
The Food 4 Kids Backpack Program is an emergency food assistance program designed especially for chronically hungry children in San Diego County. The program provides a weekly backpack full of kid friendly food to children at risk of going hungry over the weekend and/or holidays when federal free or reduced-price meals are unavailable. Dedicated volunteers each month preassemble over 3,200 bags of food for the program which are then distributed to 22 elementary schools in San Diego County with a total of 800 student participants.
Mural Group Project Goal:
Each month dedicated volunteers spend hours in the Food 4 Kids Backpack sorting room helping to alleviate hunger by preassembling the bags of food for the chronically hungry children. Our goal is to transform the Food 4 Kids Backpack sorting room into a beautiful room of mural art reflecting the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program and the children and families who are being helped. We are seeking a group of 4-6 mural artists who are willing to devote time to this project from start to finish. All materials needed for the project will be provided by the San Diego Food Bank.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work well with others including Food Bank staff and volunteers
- Must be able to commit to the project until the mural is completed
- Creative Skills – Mural Design
- Art lover and community enthusiast
- Must be prepared to submit mural design proposal
- Must be able to begin project September 2010
- Project must be completed within 2 months of start date
SUPERVISION:
The Mural Artist Volunteers will work closely with the Programs Coordinator for the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program.
