What do volunteers do at the Food Bank? Food Sorting – Volunteers ensure that donated food is sorted, cleaned, packed and ready for distribution to the community.
Bagging and Boxing - Each month SDFB volunteers prepare 7,000 senor citizen food boxes and 1,500 emergency food bags for distribution |

Do I need to schedule in advance? Yes! All projects must be scheduled in advance. No walk-ins are permitted. Once you are on the schedule you’ll receive a project confirmation. Your project confirmation will include some information about what you’ll be doing, directions to the San Diego Food Bank or your project site, and a list of our policies and procedures. |

Can I bring a group?
We welcome corporate teams, office groups, schools, service organizations, alumni groups, associations, families, fraternities and sororities, and religious organizations. Our volunteer projects can accommodate groups of various sizes and can provide team-building opportunities. |

Can children volunteer at the Food Bank?
Volunteering is a great way to teach children about service. An adult must accompany all children and youth under the age of 14. In partnership with Volunteer San Diego, the San Diego Food Bank has a youth volunteer project the second Wednesday and fourth Thursday of every month from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. |

Can I complete court-assigned community service hours?
1. The San Diego Food Bank will only consider misdemeanor offenses. Case number must be provided (see application)
2.Court mandate or community service must complete additional documentation and verification with appropriate agency and will be validated by the SDFB. |

What should I wear?
The dress code at the Food Bank is casual and comfortable. Sneakers, work shoes or boots are required. No heels, open-toed shoes or sandals are permitted in the warehouse. The warehouse is not temperature-controlled so volunteers are encouraged to wear seasonal clothing. Please leave purses, jewelry and other valuables at home or locked in your car. The San Diego Food Bank will not be responsible for any missing personal belongings. For distributions we suggest bringing sunscreen and water. |

Driving Directions
The San Diego Food Bank is located at 9850 Distribution Avenue, San Diego CA 92121 (between the 805 and the 15 freeways off Miramar Road)
- From the 5:
- Take the La Jolla Village Drive Exit.
- Merge onto La Jolla Village Drive.
- Travel east until you pass Interstate 805.
- La Jolla Village Drive becomes Miramar Road.
- Turn left onto Distribution.
- Go to end of Distribution Avenue until you reach a cul-de-sac.
- Turn left into driveway on the left of the cul-de-sac.
- The San Diego Food Bank is the building on your right.
- From the 805:
- Take the La Jolla Village Drive / Miramar Road exit.
- Merge onto Miramar Road, traveling east, (Seven stop lights from Interstate 805).
- Turn left onto Distribution Avenue.
- Go to end of Distribution Avenue which ends in a cul-de-sac.
- Turn left into driveway on the left of the cul-de-sac.
- The San Diego Food Bank is the building on your right.
- From the 15:
- Take the Miramar Road/Pomerado Road Exit.
- Turn left onto Miramar Road - traveling west across the bridge.
- Turn right onto Distribution Avenue, eleven stop lights from the Interstate.
- Go to end of Distribution Avenue which ends in a cul-de-sac.
- Turn left into driveway on the left of the cul-de-sac.
- The San Diego Food Bank is the building on your right.

When you arrive take the stairs or ramp up to the patio and enter through the double doors on the right side of the building, nearest to the cul-de-sac. |
