COMMODITIES SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRAM
 

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides food and nutrition education to eligible low-income pregnant women, women 12 months postpartum, breast-feeding mothers, children under six years of age and seniors over the age of 60.

The program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. In San Diego County, the San Diego Food Bank (SDFB), administers CSFP in cooperation with the California Department of Education.

WHAT TYPE OF FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED?
Each participant receives one box of food a month. The box contains a variety of food including infant formula, evaporated milk, instant non-fat milk, canned meats, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, cheese, rice, pasta, fruit juice and cereal.
 
 
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
  • Pregnant Women
  • Infants & children up to age six
  • Women 12 months postpartum
 
  • Breast-feeding mothers up to 12 months
  • Senior citizens over sixty

PARTICIPANTS MUST:
  • Reside in San Diego County
  • Be a low-income household (see guidelines below)
 
  • Not be receiving WIC benefits. Participants must receive either WIC or CSFP.

HOW & WHERE DO I APPLY?
Eligible applicants can enroll in the program by applying in person at their local distribution site. To determine eligibility, the applicant must present documents that establish the applicant’s place of residence, level of income, pregnancy or postpartum status and if enrolling children, legal guardianship of the children and age.
 
 
TYPE OF DOCUMENTS NEEDED
  • Driver's license or passport
  • Children's birth certificate
  • Proof of pregnancy
  • Proof of address, phone, water or utility bill
 
  • Income Verfication - bank statement, tax return, social security check, retirement check, disability check or verification document from social security administration
 
 
ONCE ENROLLED WHAT DO I DO?
Once enrolled, the applicant will be assigned a distribution date and location as well as a monthly calendar of future distributions.

If you miss a distribution, you may go to the Make-Up Day on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Please contact the San Diego Food Bank for additional information.

If the program is temporarily full, your application will be placed on a waiting list. Applicants on the waiting list will be enrolled in the program as soon as vacancies occur.
 
 

In honor of Martin Luther King, Iglesia Puerta De Cielo has moved to the 1st Monday as opposed to the 3rd Monday for January ONLY.
Begining in February 2009 Colina Head Start will close and all participants must go to the Colinas Recreation Center on the 3rd Friday from 9:00 - 12:00.
