First Annual 'Firehouse Food Drive'
July 16 - July 30, 2007 - Download Full PDF

July 16 through July 30, 2007 – San Diego Food Bank food donation barrels on-site at all 45 fire stations in San Diego.

Both organizations are committed to supporting San Diego’s community 365 days a year – Fire safety and food donation are not just seasonal necessities. They are critical issues that we need to support all yearlong.

In support of San Diego Food Bank’s mission to alleviate hunger and provide food for people in need, the San Diego Fire Department and the San Diego City Firefighters Local 145 are joint sponsors of the first annual Firehouse Food Drive.

Hunger affects San Diegans 365 days a year.
Each year, more than 813,000 individuals throughout San Diego County will experience some form of food insecurity and 35.1 million people — including 12.4 million children — across the United States live in households that experience hunger or the risk of hunger.

This first annual ‘Firehouse Food Drive’ is held in the summer to highlight the importance of the community to ‘give back’ to those in need throughout the year. While San Diego Food Bank (SDFB) successfully distributes food and services to more than 160,000 individuals in San Diego County every month, there are still many more people in need. San Diegans are encouraged to show their support by donating food items to designated fire stations in their local neighborhoods.

WHAT   The SDFB will provide collection barrels to each of the 45 fire station locations and will pick up the barrels filled with food and distribute the donations to hungry San Diegans in need. These collection barrels will be placed in an easily accessible area of the fire stations to ensure convenience for San Diego donors.
