San Diego, Calif – Nov. 20, 2009 – Students at La Jolla Country Day School will donate an estimated 20,000 pounds of food to the San Diego Food Bank at a ceremony with students and school officials. La Jolla Country Day School hosted its annual holiday food drive for the San Diego Food Bank from Nov. 16 to 20 and collected an estimated twenty pounds of food per student – a record breaking amount for a school collection per capita.

San Diego, Calif – July 16, 2009 – Amateur fishermen on a recreational deep-sea fishing expedition will dock at San Diego Harbor Friday morning and donate hundreds of pounds worth of whole tuna and yellowtail fish to the San Diego Food Bank that will be immediately distributed to charities serving food to people in need.

San Diego, Calif – June 24, 2009 – The San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) will launch this summer’s federally funded summer lunch program, “the Summer Fun Café,” targeting low-income students who do not receive free school meals during their summer vacation. This year, the school district is partnering with the San Diego Food Bank who will provide a free food distribution to parents at all 21 local parks; and its team of volunteers will pre-screen attendees for Food Stamps.

San Diego, Calif – March 23, 2009 – Local students will create public service announcement-style videos for the San Diego Food Bank addressing the growing problem of hunger in our community for the San Diego County Office of Education-sponsored annual Innovative Video In Education (iVIE) competition.

San Diego, Calif – March 16, 2009 – Joel Berg, former Clinton Administration official and author of the new book All You Can Eat: How Hungry Is America? will visit local hunger relief agencies to discuss his book and policies that San Diego can implement to improve the county’s Food Stamp participation rate, which ranks last in the nation. Berg will also discuss how President Obama’s budget and policy proposals could help hungry families.

San Diego, Calif – March 5, 2009 – All 57 San Diego County Vons supermarkets will host a one-day “Super Saturday” Food Drive on March 7 to help the San Diego Food Bank which has seen a dramatic decrease in food donations and rise in demand following the recent holiday season. The food drive was initiated and is being coordinated by Vons employees – folks who work every day in local grocery stores and recognized the need to provide hunger relief to fellow San Diegans. Three “store districts” within the county: North, Central and South, each with 19 stores, will hold a friendly competition to collect the most food for the Food Bank.

San Diego, Calif. – Dec. 15, 2008 – The San Diego Food Bank and the Neighborhood House Association (NHA) announced the success of a joint collaboration in completing the transition of ownership for the San Diego Food Bank's warehouse.
