KUSI INTERVIEWS PROGRAMS DIRECTOR ON THE NEED TO CONTINUE GIVING AFTER THE HOLIDAYS

San Diego – December 26 – The San Diego Food Bank's programs director Vanessa Franco appeared on Good Morning San Diego to discuss the need for the community to give beyond the holidays. Franco asked the community to remember the SDFB long after the holiday decorations are put away.

CW6 NEWS: MAGIC 92.5 FOUR CORNERS FOOD DRIVE

San Diego – December 12 – Local radio station Magic 92.5 host its annual food and coat drive over four consecutive days at four separate Wal-Mart locations throughout the county. CW6's Ruben Galvan visited the food drive in Chula Vista and spoke to DJs Jagger and Kristi, and SDFB board member Ed Wallace.

KUSI NEWS: SAN DIEGANS RUN FOR THE HUNGRY ON THANKSGIVING

San Diego – November 27 – Over 4,000 San Diegans ran in the seventh annual Run for the Hungry 5K/10K downtown. Proceeds from the run benefit the San Diego Food Bank and Jewish Family Service.

SDFB FEATURED IN SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE
San Diego – August 5 – The San Diego Union Tribune featured the release of the SDFB’s distribution figures showing an ‘alarming’ rise in the demand for help from low-income families in San Diego County. The story gives the SDFB’s distribution figures in key cities including: La Mesa up 102%; Spring Valley up 69%; and Chula Vista up 34%.

SDFB APPEARS ON KPBS ‘THESE DAYS’ WITH TOM FUDGE

San Diego – August 4 – San Diego Food Bank CEO “Scody” Hage and Chairman “Mitch” Mitchell appeared on KPBS radio’s ‘These Days’ talk show with Tom Fudge. Nearly one year after the SDFB’s independence, Mitchell and Hage explained how the SDFB’s first year had been a huge success while at the same time highlighting the challenges the SDFB faces tackling hunger in San Diego County’s tumbling economy.

San Diego Food Bank Board Members Appear on KUSI’s ‘Good Morning San Diego’
San Diego – July 31 – San Diego Food Bank Board Members Jennifer Perkins and Chairman Eugene “Mitch” Mitchell were interviewed live on KUSI’s ‘Good Morning San Diego’ breakfast news program at the SDFB’s warehouse in Miramar today.

Perkins and Mitchell appeared on the program in four separate live interviews over the course of the morning and discussed the SDFB’s successful transition into an independent charity. Both board members highlighted the SDFB’s successful first year including the appointment of a new CEO and board of directors, ending the year debt-free, complete separation from the Neighborhood House Association, and partnering with over 300 non-profit agencies.

Mitchell and Perkins illustrated the grave threat of hunger facing low-income working families in San Diego County and appealed to the community for help through financial donations, volunteering and food donations.

San Diego Union Tribune Editorial: “New Leadership Redeems Food Bank”
San Diego – July 29 – The lead editorial by the San Diego Union Tribune Editorial Board heralds the SDFB’s successful transition into an independent organization.

Under the strong leadership of Chairman Eugene “Mitch” Mitchell and President Stephen P. Cushman along with a new board of directors, two capable executive directors and loyal staff, the SDFB has “regained its reputation.”

A year after independence the editorial cites the SDFB’s accomplishments: “[having] money in the bank, a loyal staff, a roster of local food suppliers… supporters such as the Chargers…and distributing at least 10 million pounds of food a year” to people in need.

SAN DIEGO FOOD BANK RECEIVES MAJOR DONATION FROM DRUG STORES CONFERENCE

San Diego – July 1, 2008 – Exhibitors donated three semi-truck loads of food and sample consumer goods weighing 17,000 lbs at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Marketplace Conference at the San Diego Convention Center today.
