San Diego – August 5 – The San Diego Union Tribune featured the release of the SDFB’s distribution figures showing an ‘alarming’ rise in the demand for help from low-income families in San Diego County. The story gives the SDFB’s distribution figures in key cities including: La Mesa up 102%; Spring Valley up 69%; and Chula Vista up 34%. |

SDFB APPEARS ON KPBS ‘THESE DAYS’ WITH TOM FUDGE |
San Diego – August 4 – San Diego Food Bank CEO “Scody” Hage and Chairman “Mitch” Mitchell appeared on KPBS radio’s ‘These Days’ talk show with Tom Fudge. Nearly one year after the SDFB’s independence, Mitchell and Hage explained how the SDFB’s first year had been a huge success while at the same time highlighting the challenges the SDFB faces tackling hunger in San Diego County’s tumbling economy.

| San Diego Food Bank Board Members Appear on KUSI’s ‘Good Morning San Diego’ |
| San Diego – July 31 – San Diego Food Bank Board Members Jennifer Perkins and Chairman Eugene “Mitch” Mitchell were interviewed live on KUSI’s ‘Good Morning San Diego’ breakfast news program at the SDFB’s warehouse in Miramar today.
Perkins and Mitchell appeared on the program in four separate live interviews over the course of the morning and discussed the SDFB’s successful transition into an independent charity. Both board members highlighted the SDFB’s successful first year including the appointment of a new CEO and board of directors, ending the year debt-free, complete separation from the Neighborhood House Association, and partnering with over 300 non-profit agencies.
Mitchell and Perkins illustrated the grave threat of hunger facing low-income working families in San Diego County and appealed to the community for help through financial donations, volunteering and food donations. |

| San Diego Union Tribune Editorial: “New Leadership Redeems Food Bank” |
| San Diego – July 29 – The lead editorial by the San Diego Union Tribune Editorial Board heralds the SDFB’s successful transition into an independent organization.
Under the strong leadership of Chairman Eugene “Mitch” Mitchell and President Stephen P. Cushman along with a new board of directors, two capable executive directors and loyal staff, the SDFB has “regained its reputation.”
A year after independence the editorial cites the SDFB’s accomplishments: “[having] money in the bank, a loyal staff, a roster of local food suppliers… supporters such as the Chargers…and distributing at least 10 million pounds of food a year” to people in need. |

| HSBC Packs 35,000 Pounds and Donates $5,000 |
San Diego – July 31 – HSBC San Diego volunteers packed 35,000 pounds of food at the SDFB’s distribution warehouse in Miramar this month.
In addition to their hardworking volunteers, the team led by Executive Vice President Aaron Tankersley and Senior Vice President John Molnar, presented the SDFB’s CEO, J. Scofield “Scody” Hage with a $5,000 check which will enable the Food Bank to provide the equivalent of 15,000 meals.
HSBC’s thirty volunteers dazzled the SDFB’s warehouse staff by their sheer speed and efficiency. The volunteers who worked on the assembly line packed 1,180 boxes of food which came to 35,400 pounds, totaling 27,456 meals. Since the SDFB provides nearly 20,000 meals daily, the HSBC team fed San Diego County for more than a day.
SDFB CEO Scody Hage thanked the volunteer team for their hard work and the executive staff for HSBC’s very generous donation which will provide meals to working families in need. |

San Diego – July 1, 2008 – Exhibitors donated three semi-truck loads of food and sample consumer goods weighing 17,000 lbs at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Marketplace Conference at the San Diego Convention Center today.
