Hosting a food drive is easy and fun. All that is required is a little planning and enthusiastic people!
FIRST STEPS
The first step is to get approval from your organization’s management or administration to host a food drive within your organization or group.
After you have received permission to host a food drive the next step is to set up an organizing committee to manage your food drive. (For detailed instructions and tips on hosting a food drive, visit the How to Organize a Food Drive webpage.)
REGISTER YOUR FOOD DRIVE
Once you are ready, you can register to host a food drive on our Register Your Food Drive webpage.
Before you register you should determine:
- Start and end dates of your food drive.
- Your method of collection. You can either use your own boxes, or the Food Bank can provide you with our red barrels.
- Whether you will be picking up and dropping off boxes/barrels from our warehouse (preferred), or if you will need to have a driver deliver/pick up at your address.
Please note:
If you plan to pick up/drop off the red barrels yourself, the San Diego Food Bank is located at 9850 Distribution Ave., San Diego, CA 92121. Barrels can be picked up/dropped off Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
